Linking micellar structures to hydrogelation for salt-triggered dipeptide gelators.

Some functionalised dipeptides can form hydrogels when salts are added to solutions at high pH. We have used surface tension, conductivity, rheology, optical, confocal and scanning electron microscopy, (1)H NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy measurements to characterise fully the phase behaviour of solutions of one specific gelator, 2NapFF, at 25 °C at pH 10.5. We show that this specific naphthalene-d...

Supramolecular hydrogels based on short peptides linked with conformational switch.

Short peptides appropriately linked with an azobenzene conformational switch were found to be motif and pH dependant supramolecular hydrogelators. The hydrogelation properties of the short peptides linked with the conformational switch were studied in detail with respect to dependence on amino acid residue, pH and salt effect. The presence of amino acids with aromatic side chains such as Phe an...

Self-inclusion of proline-functionalised calix[4]arene leads to hydrogelation.

Solution-phase and solid-state structural studies indicate that the remarkable hydrogelation properties of a proline-functionalised calix[4]arene emerge as a result of extended helical structures formed via inclusion of a proline moiety in a neighbouring calixarene cavity.

A multi-stimuli responsive, self-assembling, boronic acid dipeptide.

Modification of the dipeptide of phenylalanine, FF, with a boronic acid (BA) functionality imparts unique aqueous self-assembly behavior that responds to multiple stimuli. Changes in pH and ionic strength are used to trigger hydrogelation via the formation of nanoribbon networks. Furthermore, we show for the first time that the binding of polyols to the BA functionality can modulate a peptide b...

Dipeptide hydrogelation triggered via ultraviolet light.

UV irradiation of a dipeptide gelator in solution with a photoacid generator (PAG) results in the formation of a hydrogel. We demonstrate that photopatterning of these gels using a UV mask is possible.
